Sage Steele, host of The Sage Steele Show, recently joined America’s Newsroom to share her reaction to former President Obama’s sharp words aimed at Black men.

Obama’s remarks were centered around their dwindling support for Vice President Kamala Harris and a trend toward Trump in recent years. Steele didn’t hold back, calling Obama’s comments a “scolding” and noting that many Black voters she speaks with aren’t buying into Obama’s message this time around, as reported by Fox News.

Steele recounted a conversation she had with a Black voter, who expressed his anger about Obama’s lecturing tone. “He was livid,” Steele recalled, noting that the voter asked, “Why is he talking down to us? Don’t scold us. Where have you been?”

This frustration stems from a sentiment shared by many Black Americans who feel they’re being preached to from elites like Obama, who retreat to their luxurious estates and show up only when it’s politically convenient.

Steele didn’t mince words, saying, “The problem is he and they have gotten away with this rhetoric for years. Now they can’t back anything up.”

She pointed out that it’s too little, too late, for Obama to swoop in weeks before an election and attempt to sway voters. Her frustration mirrored that of the voters she spoke with, who were increasingly skeptical of being told how to vote based on their race.

She found it refreshing to hear voters, particularly Black men and women, reject this narrative. “We’re not idiots,” she quoted them as saying. These voters recognize the timing and manipulation at play, and they’re pushing back against being stereotyped.

Steele also emphasized how racist it is for Democrats to assume that Black people will automatically fall in line, offering freebies simply because of the color of their skin.

Steele took a hard line, saying, “Democrats think Black people are too stupid or lazy to do their homework. Maybe in the past they didn’t take things as seriously. I don’t know. But I feel, I’m excited for this future, this younger generation, all races, of course, but in particular because there’s so much focus now that the Democrats on the Black vote.”

Obama’s comments came during a stop in Pittsburgh, where he addressed the lack of enthusiasm among Black voters for Kamala Harris’ campaign.

He said, “We have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all corners of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running.”

He specifically called out Black men, urging them to support Harris, saying they’re “coming up with excuses” for not voting for her. Obama suggested that some of their reluctance might stem from not wanting a woman as president.
