In a recent segment on Fox Business, Texas Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland sharply criticized Kamala Harris’s assertion that fixing the immigration crisis has been a priority for the Biden-Harris administration.

Vice President Kamala Harris holds a campaign rally at the Rawhide Event Center in the Gila River Indian Community on Oct. 10, 2024.

During his conversation with host Stuart Varney, Cleveland contended that the immigration system functions effectively when properly enforced, placing the blame for current issues on the administration and Washington, D.C.

Varney opened the discussion by referencing a clip of Harris speaking with Bret Baier.

In the clip, Harris stated, “We have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired. It is a priority for us as a nation and for the American people, and our focus has been on fixing a problem. And from day one, then we have done a number of things.”

Following the clip, Varney pointed out the length of time that has passed under the current administration, saying, “Three and half years. Okay? Terrell County, Texas, the sheriff there is Thaddeus Cleveland, he joins me now. It’s been a priority since day one, says Kamala Harris. You’re shaking your head. Go ahead.”

Sheriff Cleveland responded firmly, stating, “Look, it hasn’t been a priority. Look, I’ve spent a lifetime on the US-Mexico border. I was born down here, spent a career in the US Border Patrol, and now, of course, county sheriff. When she makes the point that the immigration system is broke, that could be further from the truth. The immigration system works. Our laws work when they’re enforced. What is broke is Washington, DC and this administration. Look, we had the most secure border under President Trump in the last almost four years. Now, complete dismantling of the border.”

Varney shifted the conversation to the growing influence of gangs, specifically mentioning the Tren de Aragua gang.

He noted, “Next one. This Tren de Aragua gang has taken over four apartment complexes in San Antonio, Texas. It’s not just in Colorado. This is a nationwide problem, isn’t it?”

Cleveland confirmed the alarming trend, stating, “Stuart certainly is. And look, I love the city of San Antonio. I had some graduate from college down there. We get down there quite a bit. It’s about four hours away, but when we have all those people crossing, all those who are crossing illegally and given, you know, basically a free pass in the United States with the notice to appear, the first place they went to was San Antonio, Texas. They were bused to give Eagle Pass relief to San Antonio.”

He continued, “And then you had some of the NGO non-governmental organizations that had shelters there, and a lot of those people just set up shop there. And they have completely, you know, increased the crime rate there. San Antonio, beautiful city, but it’s really been taken over with crime over these last three and a half, four years.”
