Senator Bernie Sanders issued a sharp critique of the Democratic Party following another defeat by President-elect Donald Trump.
Sanders, 83, took to social media to outline his concerns and frustrations with his party’s approach, sharing his statement shortly before Kamala Harris delivered her concession speech.
“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” Sanders wrote.

The Vermont senator, known for his Democratic socialist stance, lamented the party’s loss of support among the working class, which he described as a predictable outcome given what he sees as the party’s disconnect from the needs of average Americans.
Sanders emphasized that the alienation is no longer limited to the white working class, which he claimed was the first to turn away from the Democrats.
According to Sanders, the shift now includes Black and Latino workers, groups traditionally viewed as strongholds for the Democratic Party. “While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change,” he stated. “And they’re right.”

The senator also pointed to the unique struggles facing younger generations, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence and robotics, which he said threaten the future of employment and economic stability.

Sanders expressed concern that, despite technological advances and increased productivity, “many young people will have a worse standard of living than their parents.”
This trend, he argued, reflects a system where economic progress does not translate into improved conditions for the average American.
Sanders also took aim at foreign policy decisions under the Biden-Harris administration, specifically its financial support for Israel in the ongoing Gaza conflict.
He denounced the billions of dollars sent to support the Israeli government, citing the resulting humanitarian crisis. Sanders has been vocal in his criticisms of U.S. support for Israel during times of conflict, and his statement underscored his opposition to what he views as an unchecked flow of military aid without sufficient accountability.
The senator further criticized what he described as the stranglehold of “big money interests” and “well-paid consultants” on the Democratic Party, asserting that these factors have prevented the party from learning critical lessons from previous electoral losses.
“Do they have any idea as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful oligarchy which has so much economic and political power?” Sanders asked, casting doubt on whether the Democratic leadership truly grasps the challenges facing the nation.
Sanders concluded his message by pledging to engage in “some very serious political discussions,” hinting at the possibility of new political initiatives or strategies in response to the current landscape.
He also urged his supporters to “stay tuned,” sparking speculation about his future political plans.

Some observers have wondered whether Sanders, who has run for president twice, may be considering another run in 2028.
However, by that time, he would be 87 years old, raising questions about his viability as a candidate.
Sanders’ remarks have resonated with a segment of the Democratic base that feels increasingly disillusioned with the party’s direction.
His criticisms reflect a broader debate within the party over its future path, as Democrats now face the challenge of regrouping after their second consecutive loss to Trump.
