Kamala Harris, who recently lost her bid for the presidency, is using news of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s nomination as Attorney General in President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration to rally her supporters for donations.

On Wednesday, Harris’s team sent out a fundraising email citing concerns over Gaetz’s nomination and questioning Trump’s other cabinet choices.

The email highlights Gaetz’s ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation, suggesting that even some of his Republican colleagues are reportedly unsettled by his nomination. “Gaetz is the same man who remains the subject of an ongoing House Ethics Committee investigation – even his Republican allies are shocked by this choice and that speaks volumes,” the fundraising plea states.

Trump’s other cabinet nominations were also targeted in the email, including his choice of Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.

The email criticizes what it calls a “disturbing pattern” in Trump’s selections, referring to Hegseth as “a Fox News personality” without acknowledging his extensive military background.

Hegseth, a decorated combat veteran, served in the National Guard for over 18 years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and reached the rank of major.

The Harris campaign’s email further asserts that Gaetz and Trump “will weaponize the DOJ to protect themselves and their allies, and we must stop them from executing Trump’s plans for revenge and retribution.”

This claim comes as part of Harris’s pitch to raise funds for what she’s calling the “Harris Fight Fund,” aimed at countering the incoming administration’s policies and actions.

The plea to donors emphasizes the urgency of the moment, asking supporters, “Can we count on you to contribute $50, or whatever feels right to you, to support the Harris Fight Fund program to make sure we hold Trump and Gaetz accountable and prevent them from undermining our rights?”

Reports indicate that Harris’s campaign ended with a substantial debt of $20 million, adding financial strain as her team seeks support for future initiatives.

In related developments, Gaetz resigned from his House seat on Wednesday, in anticipation of his new role in the Trump administration.

House Speaker Mike Johnson commented on Gaetz’s decision, explaining that it was influenced by state laws requiring an eight-week window to fill vacant seats. “If you start the clock now, if you do the math, we may be able to fill that seat as early as Jan. 3 when we take the new oath of office for the new Congress,” Johnson noted.

As Harris continues to mobilize her base for donations in response to Trump’s cabinet announcements, Trump is moving quickly to assemble a team of loyalists, signaling a shift in Washington’s leadership structure.
