Joe Biden has responded to growing concerns about the recent surge of drone sightings in the tri-state area, assuring the public that the situation does not pose any immediate danger.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Biden stated, “Nothing nefarious apparently, but they’re checking it all out.”

The drone sightings, first reported in New Jersey on November 18, have sparked alarm among lawmakers and residents. Federal agencies have been inundated with more than 5,000 tips related to the incidents, of which approximately 100 warranted further investigation.

“We’re following this closely, but so far no sense of danger,” Biden said. He also suggested a potential explanation, referencing a “copycat” theory. “There’s a lot of drones authorized up there. I think one started it and they all — everybody wanted to get in the deal,” the Joe added.

Biden’s remarks align with a joint statement issued Monday by the FBI, FAA, Pentagon, and Department of Homeland Security.

The agencies downplayed the threat, attributing the sightings to a mix of legitimate drone activity and misidentified objects.

“We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones,” the statement read.

Despite these reassurances, the unexplained appearances have drawn criticism and calls for transparency from lawmakers.

“When we’re shutting down air force bases. Wright Patterson, Air Force Base gets shut down for a while. When commercial airlines are interfered with, they can’t do their flight patterns because of these drones. That’s weird. You can’t tell me the government doesn’t know what’s going on here, and the fact they will not brief us, they will not level up with us, they won’t answer questions in public. There’s something really strange going on.” – Josh Hawley

Over the weekend, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy confirmed the deployment of drone-detecting devices to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, New York Senator Chuck Schumer urged federal authorities to leverage newly declassified radar technology to identify the origins of the drones.

The controversy escalated on Monday when President-elect Donald Trump accused the Biden-Harris administration of withholding information about the source of the drones.

“The government knows what is happening,” Trump said in a statement. “Look, our military knows where they took off from — if it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason, they don’t want to comment.”

Trump argued that the administration’s lack of transparency was fueling public suspicion. “And I think they’d be better off saying what it is. Our military knows, and our president knows. And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense,” he added.

The mystery began nearly a month ago, with sightings primarily concentrated in New Jersey but also extending to parts of New York and Connecticut.

While federal agencies continue to investigate, the Biden-Harris administration has urged patience, emphasizing that preliminary findings indicate no malicious intent behind the activity.

As federal and state officials work to uncover the source of the drones, the public remains divided, with some accepting official explanations and others questioning the government’s narrative.

Whether the sightings are the result of legitimate drone operations or something more remains to be seen.
