A large-scale brawl at Englewood STEM High School on Chicago’s South Side on Friday resulted in a significant police response and the injury of at least four officers.

The incident, which involved around 100 students across three floors of the school, unfolded just before noon and has raised concerns among parents about ongoing violence at the campus.

Chicago police confirmed that five arrests were made following the chaotic scene at the school, located near 68th Street and Normal Avenue.

However, authorities have not yet provided details about the charges against those detained.

Cell phone footage captured the disorder in the school hallways as officers worked to de-escalate the situation.

The footage, which showed students and police attempting to regain control, highlighted the scale of the disruption.

Parents rushed to the school to pick up their children after learning about the brawl. Julnita McCoy, whose daughter attends Englewood STEM, said she was alerted to the incident when her daughter called during the lockdown.

“My daughter had called me and told me it was a huge fight at her school, and they had the building on lockdown,” McCoy explained. “She could not get dismissed until I came and picked her up.”

According to McCoy, her daughter reported that pepper spray was used during the fight, causing panic among students. “She said, ‘I have to go to the bathroom and wash my face because my face has mace all in it,'” McCoy recounted. “How did a student even come in the building with some mace anyway?”

The large police presence outside the school was evident as a line of squad cars led up to the main entrance.

Officers on the scene confirmed that while there were no weapons involved, several students sustained minor injuries.

Corey Johnson, another parent, shared that his 15-year-old son was handcuffed amid the chaos as police worked to control the crowd.

“He said it was a girl fight at first, and then it just hit so big that everybody started fighting,” Johnson explained.

The incident has left parents frustrated with what they describe as a recurring issue at Englewood STEM High School.

“At this school, every time you turn around, it’s fights all the time,” Johnson said, expressing his concerns about the safety of students.

Chicago police confirmed that four officers were injured while responding to the brawl, though the injuries were not specified.

Authorities have not disclosed whether additional security measures will be implemented following the incident.

As parents like McCoy and Johnson demand answers and express concerns about the school’s safety, the focus now shifts to addressing the ongoing issues that appear to be contributing to violence at Englewood STEM.

No further information about the individuals arrested or potential charges has been released, and police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the brawl.
