Unexplained drone swarms over New Jersey have sparked national security concerns, with reports suggesting a possible connection to a “mother ship” launched by Iran.

Some of the drones are reportedly as large as SUVs, raising alarms about their potential capabilities and origin.

Van Drew cited high-level sources to claim that Iran may be behind the mysterious drone activity.

“From very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources, I’m going to tell you the real deal,” Van Drew stated. “Iran launched a mother ship, probably about a month ago, that contains these drones. That mother ship is off… the East Coast of the United States of America. They’ve launched drones, everything that we can see or hear, and these are from high sources, I don’t say this lightly.”

Van Drew dismissed the idea that the drones could be the result of U.S. government operations or hobbyists, emphasizing that the technology involved points to an adversarial foreign power.

“Now we know there was a probability that this could have been our own government, but we know it’s not our own government because they would have let us know,” he explained. “It could have been some really glorified hobbyist or hobbyists, that were doing something unbelievable—they don’t have the technology. But let’s pretend that’s possible. The third possibility is somebody, an adversarial country, doing this.”

The specifics of the alleged Iranian mother ship remain unclear.

Questions persist about the type of vessel involved, whether it is a small craft designed to deploy drones or an adapted freighter serving as a base of operations.

Van Drew provided additional details, suggesting that Iran’s collaboration with China may play a role. “Know that Iran made a deal with China to purchase drones, mother ships, and technology in order to go forward,” he said.

“The sources I have are good, they can’t reveal who they are because they are speaking to me in confidentiality. These drones should be shot down. Whether it was some crazy hobbyist that we can’t imagine, or whether it is Iran—and I think it very possibly could be—they should be shot down. We are not getting the full deal. And the military is on alert with this.”

The size and capabilities of these drones, described as large enough to carry weapons or explosives, raise significant national security concerns.

If the drones are confirmed to be foreign-operated, their presence in American airspace constitutes a grave violation.

Van Drew’s remarks add urgency to the situation, as he called for decisive action. “These drones should be shot down, and the wreckage examined to see just where they may have originated,” he said.

The potential involvement of Iran, a nation widely regarded as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, would mark a concerning escalation.

The situation also draws comparisons to earlier incidents, such as the Chinese spy balloon that traversed the continental United States without intervention.

As investigations continue, calls for greater transparency and swift action are growing. Congressman Van Drew’s comments have highlighted the need for a comprehensive response to determine the drones’ origin and purpose, as well as to safeguard American airspace from further incursions.
