However, she has faced harsh criticism from some social media users.
Among the comments aimed at Sweeney were remarks describing her as “too pale” and suggesting she “needs to lose a few pounds around the middle.”
Others labeled her “frumpy,” “painfully average looking,” or even compared her to fictional characters like Miss Piggy.
Despite the negative feedback, Sweeney used the opportunity to respond by showcasing her dedication to fitness and preparation for her upcoming role as professional boxer Christy Martin.
In a video montage shared on her Instagram, Sweeney highlighted the scathing comments before presenting her physical transformation.
The clips and images featured the actress engaging in intense boxing training, including sessions in the ring, working with a punching bag, and using various gym equipment.
She also displayed her muscular arms and toned physique, demonstrating her commitment to embodying the role of Martin, a trailblazer for women in boxing.
Sweeney’s response extended beyond her physical transformation.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress criticized the entertainment industry’s lack of genuine support among women. “It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down,” she said.
“All people say is, ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other stuff they say behind everyone’s back.”
She speculated that societal conditioning might contribute to this dynamic, stating, “Our entire lives, we were raised… to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man. There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down.”
Despite the challenges, Sweeney expressed her determination to rise above the negativity and continue pursuing her goals. “I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?” she asked.
While the backlash continues, Sweeney’s fans have rallied in her defense, praising her authenticity and dedication to her craft.
As she prepares for her role in the Christy Martin biopic, Sweeney remains focused on her work, using criticism as motivation to achieve new heights in her career.
