Megyn Kelly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University graduate student facing deportation due to his participation in pro-Hamas demonstrations on campus.

During a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, she discussed the legal and national security implications of Khalil’s case and argued that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is justified in identifying him as a threat.

Kelly pointed out that Khalil’s case is part of a broader issue involving foreign students who come to the U.S. on visas, gain access to top-tier universities, and then use that platform to promote radical ideologies.

“He got a golden ticket into the United States of America,” Kelly said.

“We gave him a student visa, he got into one of our most prestigious universities. We let him study alongside American kids who are the next generation of leadership. And what did he do? He decided to join up with this group that is, without a question, pro-Hamas, that was allegedly distributing pro-Hamas pamphlets, leaflets, promotional materials.”

She noted that Khalil’s actions and associations on campus played a significant role in the protests that disrupted Columbia University.

“He was extremely defensive of what had been done by Hamas on 10/7. And he recognized that even though he was here on a temporary status—yes, we gave him a green card, but you’re not a citizen yet—that he should be in more of a supportive role of this organization that was organizing the hell on Columbia’s campus, but he still took part. He couldn’t quite keep it together long enough to get citizenship,” Kelly continued.

“It was that important to him. And so, by his own admission, he was a spokesperson for the group.”

Khalil’s involvement in the Columbia protests included participation in encampments and demonstrations that supported Hamas, an organization designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. government.

The demonstrations at Columbia escalated when protesters took control of a campus building, prompting law enforcement intervention.

During the podcast, Kelly aired footage of the takeover, calling it “shocking.”

“If you haven’t seen it, this is the moment when Khalil was arrested,” she said.

Following the protests, the Trump administration announced that it was cutting $400 million in federal funding to Columbia University, citing its failure to address antisemitism on campus.

As her discussion on Khalil wrapped up, Kelly had a final message for him.

“If you stay with the clip, she eventually wishes Khalil well, saying, ‘Enjoy Syria!’”
