Border Czar Tom Homan explained [1] in an interview Friday why he believes President Joe Biden intentionally allowed mass illegal immigration, reversing policies that had previously curbed border crossings.
During an episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, host Stephen A. Smith noted the stark contrast between Biden’s approach to immigration and that of his predecessors.
He pointed out that former President Barack Obama had deported more illegal immigrants than President Donald Trump, yet Biden moved swiftly to undo many of those enforcement measures after taking office in 2020. Homan provided his perspective on the motivation behind these actions.
“Why do I think he did it on purpose? Because Joe Biden was vice president under Barack Obama when he had those record removals. Alejandro Mayorkas was a deputy secretary under Obama when he had those removals,” Homan said.
“And we had families. We had thousands of families come across the border every day. How did we stop it? We built family residential centers. We held them long enough to see a judge, 90% lost a case, 90%, so we put them on an airplane, sent them home and border numbers tanked.”
Homan argued that Biden and Mayorkas were well aware of how previous administrations had handled border crises yet chose to implement policies that worsened illegal crossings.
“So both those men [Biden and Mayorkas] knew how we solved that crisis. When it came back in, as the now secretary and the president, what did they do? The complete opposite. They didn’t defend. They released. They didn’t make them see a judge, and they weren’t removing them,” Homan stated.
“So they did a complete opposite of what they knew worked under President Obama.”
Homan suggested that the administration’s actions were politically motivated, potentially aimed at increasing Democratic influence in Congress.
“I think this administration thought these millions of people are gonna be future Democratic voters, but one of the things Biden also did, in addition to destroying all the programs we put in place to give us the most secure border, he overturned the Trump census rule, which means millions of people that they released in sanctuary cities will be counted in the next census,” Homan said.
“Which is going to result in more seats in the House for the Dems. So I truly believe they saw a future political benefit with this.”
Homan has been a vocal critic of Biden’s border policies, frequently arguing that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has misled the public about the state of the border.
During a recent Fox News interview, he accused Mayorkas of falsely claiming that the border was secure, despite U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting millions of illegal immigrant encounters since the start of the 2021 fiscal year.
Homan also highlighted efforts by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to ramp up deportation operations, stating that removals have increased threefold compared to the previous administration.
However, he maintained that the current border crisis was created by policy decisions that directly contradicted proven enforcement strategies.
The interview adds to the growing criticism of Biden’s handling of the border crisis, as record-breaking numbers of illegal immigrants continue to enter the country, overwhelming border states and raising concerns about national security and resource allocation.
